Description of United States Chess Federation's Official Rules of Chess, Fifth Edition
The U.S. Chess Federation's Official Rules of Chess is the only official rulebook for chess. Serious players at every level as well as chess club teachers, directors, and tournament sponsors should have it on hand during every match.
This new edition features the latest rules, including guidelines for the popular game of speed chess, an updated quick rating system, and the latest conventions governing tournaments. It also contains explanations of every legal move, a guide to calculating lifetime rankings, guidelines for sponsoring and running a tournament, and a lesson on how to read and write chess notation.
Customer Reviews of United States Chess Federation's Official Rules of Chess, Fifth Edition
Jeff from Phoenix United States Chess Federation's Official Rules of Chess, Fifth Edition ReviewIf this is not the most current edition it's not worth getting. As it stands, it is the most current edition, but it has already been significantly rewritten. The entire sections on internet rules and blitz rules are completely obsolete. I would suggest waiting for a year or two until a new edition comes out unless you want to be a tournament director or have some other official use for the book. Even then, you may be able to find a better price or get it used. However, the book gets 3 stars because despite how obsolete it is, it's not getting any other chess rulebook--this one is the official one released by the USCF.
