Customer Reviews of Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer
Brad from Arlington Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewThis unit kicks my a** on a daily basis! And, to think I paid good money for it to do so! Oh, well, a guy can hope can't he?
Ryan from California Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewDuring my lifetime, I have owned over 6 Chess Computers. The Mephisto Master is hands down the best of all of them.I bought this chess computer to help me get back into the game after not playing for over 10 years. I wanted to buy a chess computer that demonstrates great tactics and strategy. I feel strongly that this computer accomplishes this well. Further, the computer play is fairly customizable. You can turn the opening book on or off, alter the search depth, and/or think time. You can set whether the computer thinks during your turn or not, etc... Now the downside, this computer is very hard(Which is not nessasarily a bad thing)! Its estimated ELO rating is something like 2200. Even on its easiest settings this thing is hard to beat. This is not a bad thing per se but I would not recommend it to a beginner- instead, go out and buy a cheap $15.00 used radio shack or Excalibur chess computer from a pawn shop or Goodwill and play it until you can regularly beat it on the low to medium settings- then you will stand a chance. I believe you will fall in love with this chess computer quickly as I have and like me, you will never leave home without it.
Carl Berg from Denver Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewCurtis asks what the rating / class of this computer is. I would suggest it is Class A and above when set on its higher levels. It frequently finds lines suggested by Fritz (though, requiring more time) and plays solid chess. It makes silly computer moves (repeats positions when it fails to comprehend positional problems) but is a solid opponent. Makes a great chess partner if and when you need one. Don't play it when tired or with a half-hearted effort--it will beat you!
Ivan from Alliston ON Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewThis Chess computer is pretty good , but not without flaws. I 've heard it's elo is around 2076 , it plays a decent game. I can beat it with good play, my rating is around 1900. It's evaluation is pretty conservative, decent tatics and good endgame knowledge. It has some known bugs though with certain positions, and other tactics, such and pawn underpromotions.
Curtis from port wentworth Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewI do not have this computer, but I might if I knew its chess rating.
Lawrence from Detroit Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewA terrific chess computer with all the features one needs to improve his game.
Carl from Denver Saitek Mephisto Master Chess Computer ReviewThis computer is well worth the cost if one needs a chess partner. It plays well and gives me a challenging game when set at higher levels. No complaints, whatsoever!
