Description of Collector Chess Luxury Set, Board & Box Combination - Ebony
THE CHESSMEN
The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Collector Series Luxury Chess set. This full-tournament sized Chess set features a 4.0" King with a 1.875"diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. These pieces are made of genuine ebony and boxwood. The Collector Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cook in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and Knight design, which is modeled after the noble steeds from the Greek Parthenon (Elgin Marbles.)
As with all of our Chessmen, the Collector Series Luxury Chess set exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set.
The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens.
The Chess Set comes with a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque indicating the production number, with an adhesive backing that would allow it to be affixed to the underside of a Chess box.
Only the Boxwood and Genuine Ebony Collector Series Luxury Chess set comes with the King side Rooks and Knights marked with the traditional crown on their summits, a practice first introduced by Jaques of London with the original Staunton Pattern Chessmen.
THE CHESSBOARD
The Superior Traditional wooden Chessboard with 2.375" Squares features Rosewood (dark) and Holly (light) squares with a Mahogany frame. This solid wood Chessboard is nearly 1.0" thick, has a satin finish and a beautiful recessed playing surface.
THE CHESSBOX
The Mahogany Premium Chess Box is lined in green billiard cloth, divided and features brass quadrant hinges and a lock & key.
